Is this test tube of 'mammoth blood' the key to cloning?


This vial of blood may be the key to bringing woolly mammoths back to life after scientists discovered 'the world's best preserved trunk' buried in the Siberian permafrost.

The find has sparked a wave of excitement from research teams seeking to recreate the DNA of the extinct beasts with a view to bringing the species back to life.

The trunk was frozen for around 10,000 years on an Arctic island off diamond-rich Sakha Republic, the largest region in Russia, said Semyon Grigoriev, head of the Mammoth Museum in Yakutsk, leader of the expedition.
